The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
