He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
