He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
