The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
