The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And pollution shun. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
