He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
