The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sunlight is rolled up. 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 And by the morning when it shineth forth, 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 The mighty, the honoured in the presence of the Lord of the Throne. 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 When whither go ye? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
