Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
