Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
