The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
