And to (the tribe of) Thamud (We sent) their brother Salih. He said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him. A wonder from your Lord hath come unto you. Lo! this is the camel of Allah, a token unto you; so let her feed in Allah's earth, and touch her not with hurt lest painful torment seize you. 73 And remember when He made you successors after Ad and settled you in the land-- you make mansions on its plains and hew out houses in the mountains-- remember therefore Allah's benefits and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief. 74 The proud ones among Salih's people asked his oppressed followers, "Do you (really) know that Salih is a Messenger of his Lord?" They replied, "We have faith in the Message which he preaches". 75 Said those who were arrogant, "Indeed we, in that which you have believed, are disbelievers." 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Salih, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers." 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors." 79 And We sent Lot, who said to his people: "Why do you commit this lecherous act which none in the world has committed before? 80 "Verily, you practise your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins)." 81 And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive them forth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure! 82 Then We saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in the torment). 83 the while We rained a rain [of destruction] upon the others: and behold what happened in the end to those people lost in sin! 84
