Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us.
