The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 For We have caused none but angelic powers to lord over the fire [of hell]; and We have not caused their number to be aught but a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth - to the end that they who have been granted revelation aforetime might be convinced [of the truth of this divine writ]; and that they who have attained to faith [in it] might grow yet more firm in their faith; and that [both] they who have been granted the earlier revelation and they who believe [in this one] might be freed of all doubt; and that they in whose hearts is disease and they who deny the truth outright might ask, "What does [your] God mean by this parable?" In this way God lets go astray him that wills [to go astray,] and guides aright him that wills [to be guided]. And none can comprehend thy Sustainers forces save Him alone: and all this is but a reminder to mortal man. 31

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
