He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
