Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
