The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
