The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
