Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
