The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
