The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
