Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord - only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
