The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
