The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the right. 38
