The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
