The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 purify your garments; 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
