The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
