Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
