Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
