Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter into My garden. 30
