The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
