Al-Alaq

The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19

True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
