He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
