The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Eager to roast; 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
