The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount Sinai, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 And the House frequented, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
