The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
