He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
