Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
