The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 and by the Book in lines 2 In parchment spread open 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
