Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
