۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
