The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and shade extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
