The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruits numberless, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
