The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
