Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
