Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
