He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
