These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
