The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
