The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
