A throng of the ancients 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 "We are ruined, 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
