The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
